There are some steps you can take at home to bring some pain relief or to help keep your arthritis under control
Taking a warm shower or bath in the morning can help relieve stiffness
Applying heat or cold to the effected area for twenty minutes or so two to three times a day can help. Different people find different methods work for them, to begin with try both heat and cold to see what works best for you.
Regular exercise that strengthen your muscles. Once or twice a day put your joints through a full range of motion. If your pain is severe you should consult your doctor to find their recommendations on the type of exercise to suit you.
If you feel that your joints are more painful that usual you should avoid putting weight or strain on the joints for a few days. Periods of rest during the day may help but inactivity for long periods can cause the effected area to stiffen up.
Anti-inflammatory medications may help but first seek your doctor's advice because they may cause stomach upset.
Excessive weight can contribute to undue stress on the joints so keep an eye on your weight.
And finally, don't get suckered by false medical claims. There is no miracle cure for arthritis so always check with your doctor before taking any medications or herbal supplements.
